Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO)

This unit is responsible for the provision of support and expert advice to the Informatics Policy Committee (IPC), which is composed of Deputy Ministers from GNWT Departments with a mandate approved by the FMB. Working under the guidance and authority of the IPC, the Office of the Chief Information Officer is also responsible for corporate level strategic planning relative to the government's information resources (i.e. the Knowledge Management Strategy) and the implementation of key strategic initiatives. This includes the development and maintenance of enterprise architecture elements such as policies, standards, procedures and guidelines. The Office of the CIO also facilitates other major corporate and inter-departmental IT initiatives, manages the annual IT planning process, monitors and evaluates new trends and technologies and their appropriateness for use within the GNWT, represents the GNWT at the Federal/Provincial/Territorial level, and provides oversight of services provided by the Technology Services Centre.
